Andreas Gabalier plans to rock Munich’s Olympic Stadium again in 2017

Andreas-Gabalier-MuenchenwebAfter the extraordinary success of his first stadium show on 30 July 2016, Andreas Gabalier is planning an encore: on 1 July 2017, the Volksmusik/rock ‘n’ roller will aim once again to shake the Olympic Stadium in Munich to its foundations. No performer to date has drawn as many fans to the Olympic Stadium. Where the Rolling Stones failed, the mountain man from Graz succeeded first time: after selling out the stadium months in advance, at the height of the summer of 2016, the superstar from Austria joined with an audience around 72,000 strong in the largest Volksmusik/rock ‘n’ roll party in the world.

A real eye-catcher was the spectacular 25-metre-high stage, featuring a three-dimensional set, installed by the Media Resource Group (MRG)—charged with the entire project management as well as the technical realization of the spectacle. Also contributing greatly to the success of the production was the internationally oriented show staging, in which Movecat played an important role, as it will again in the summer of 2017. No fewer than sixty Pluslite 500 kg D8+ and twenty Plus-C 250 kg D8+ hoists from Movecat were deployed by MRG for the occasion. These were accompanied by additional 750 kg D8+, 1.5t D8+ and 2t D8 hoists.

Among the technical challenges posed by this outdoor show was the integration of the lavish decoration, with its very high rigging loads—the first time Andreas Gabalier had used so much material—into the roof of the stadium. For this year’s show in Munich’s Olympic Stadium, a similar set-up is planned. “Then, on 2 September, we’ll be stepping it up again,” promises Steffen Haug, the production’s technical director, “when Andreas Gabalier takes his show to Hockenheim, where many more fans still are expected.”
